Sun Sail
It's been a hot summer and the flat we rent is from the 1930s and has big windows. Great for colder days when the light is sparse, but when the temperature is above 32°C and the sun is baring down on the city, big windows mean hot house.
Since we have a rental house, and our landlord is less than enthusiastic to invest anything in the house, we can't attach the big shades that all of our neighbours have to the facade. They cost a lot.
I've been wanting to make some sort of sun shade after reading a guide on the Low-tech Magazine site about How to Mount a Balcony Awning.
With the help of our downstairs neighbour, we fashioned a shade sail that reuses some leftover muslin that the neighbour wasn't using, some leftover rope and some hooks we've attached to the window frame.
It keeps that room much cooler than before and sitting under it in the evening feels quite cosy.
